Mining 1.6

The hall was warm tonight. Smoke rose from the great fireplace, rising through the chimney into the night, giving the air the warm, sweet smell of burning ash and elm, and of roasting meats.

It was the smell of home. Matthias loved the mountains and the hills, the trees and lakes around here. It was where he felt most himself. Most at ease. But he couldn’t deny that it was here, among friends and family, with the sounds and smells of the caer that he felt most at home. The wilderness was his first love, but the dangers meant he could never truly relax. Not like here.

However much of an illusion the safety of this place may be, however little protection it may really afford, tonight at least everyone will sleep well.
